The process after a car crash with injuries

If you have a crash your first priority is to check whether other people need medical assistance - check airways, breathing and circulation - and you must report it to a police officer within 24 hours.

Call 111 for an ambulance if required. If you know first aid, such as CPR, you can administer it if it will help. Stop heavy bleeding by elevating the wound and using pressure with thick, folded cloth.

If the injured person is a motorcyclist and they are laying in the middle of the road your first priority is to ensure they are not hit by another vehicle. Turn your hazard warning lights on and position your vehicle to protect the injured rider if possible.

Move other people away from the crash scene, especially if they are disorientated or could be suffering a concussion.
