{"id":23803,"date":"2020-06-29T05:17:00","date_gmt":"2020-06-28T16:17:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.drivingtests.co.nz\/resources\/?p=23803"},"modified":"2024-12-30T21:57:36","modified_gmt":"2024-12-30T08:57:36","slug":"how-to-placard-your-vehicle-when-carrying-dangerous-goods","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.drivingtests.co.nz\/resources\/how-to-placard-your-vehicle-when-carrying-dangerous-goods\/","title":{"rendered":"How to placard your vehicle when carrying dangerous goods"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Any vehicle or combination (e.g. tractor unit and trailer) transporting dangerous goods that are a potential hazard to any person or property or to the environment must display placards or special marks as appropriate to the nature, quantity and use of the dangerous goods they are transporting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A vehicle\nthat is not carrying dangerous goods must not display placards or\nspecial marks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Placards\nplaced on general freight vehicles must be at least 250 mm x 250 mm. They must\nbe clean, unobscured and visible from a distance of at least 25 m in daylight.\nThey must not obscure any markings or plates required by other legislation and\nbe mounted on a substantially vertical surface. If only one class or division of dangerous goods is transported, and the aggregated quantity exceeds 2500 kg or 2500 litres the appropriate primary class placard must be displayed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tank wagons and bulk carriers <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tank wagons and\nother vehicles designed for transporting bulk quantities of dangerous goods,\nportable tanks and containers for bulk quantities of dangerous goods must display\nclass placards for both primary and subsidiary risks as well as emergency\ninformation panel (HAZCHEM) for all dangerous goods on the load.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"461\" src=\"https:\/\/www.drivingtests.co.nz\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/tanker-placards-600x461.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-23811\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.drivingtests.co.nz\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/tanker-placards-600x461.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.drivingtests.co.nz\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/tanker-placards-300x230.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.drivingtests.co.nz\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/tanker-placards-768x590.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.drivingtests.co.nz\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/tanker-placards-1536x1179.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.drivingtests.co.nz\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/tanker-placards.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption>Placards and hazchem information on a tanker delivering diesel.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tank wagons containing flammable substances must display the words <em>NO SMOKING OR NAKED FLAMES WITHIN 8 METRES<\/em> or similar that are legible from 10 m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Placards or special marks for tank wagons must display 250 mm placards on the front and 400 mm placards plus emergency information panel on both sides and the rear of the vehicle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">If your vehicle has a placard, does the container need one, too?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Freight containers and portable tanks need appropriate placards on either both sides or both ends except when loaded onto a placarded vehicle.
