They are used for four main tasks:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Carrying water for fire prevention or crowd control<\/li><li>Carrying drinking water to supply to rural properties<\/li><li>Carrying water to use in construction and civil engineering projects for dust suppression<\/li><li>Carrying water for irrigation<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>They come with various attachments to dispense the water. When hiring a truck, try to get them to fill the water because it takes ages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Examples of water truck use<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Transporting water to remote parts of a farm so that irrigation can continue or stock can be watered<\/li><li>Applying water to dry earth when soil compaction is required &#8211; water is metered at the right volume to ensure that the soil is not waterlogged but also not too dry<\/li><li>At some dirt track racing events (motor racing and horse racing), the track needs to be slightly slick or soft, so a water truck is used to maintain the surface<\/li><li>In large construction projects and in mining and quarrying, dust can be a major hazard. Water trucks dampen the surface to suppress the dust.<\/li><li>Fighting fires in rural areas<\/li><li>Washing the road surface<\/li><li>Watering plants (using a sprayer)<\/li><li>Crowd control and dispersal (using a water cannon)<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Difficulties driving a water truck<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.drivingtests.co.nz\/course\/rollover-prevention\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"337\" height=\"463\" src=\"https:\/\/www.drivingtests.co.nz\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/rollover-prevention-training-course.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-30883\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.drivingtests.co.nz\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/rollover-prevention-training-course.jpg 337w, https:\/\/www.drivingtests.co.nz\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/rollover-prevention-training-course-218x300.jpg 218w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 337px) 100vw, 337px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Water trucks can suffer from surging and sloshing which makes them inherently less stable through the corners and makes it more difficult to brake smoothly as the surge changes the centre of gravity and pushes the truck. A fast right-left or left-right series of bends increases the risk of rollover as the water sloshes to one side then back to the other at the same time as the vehicle changes direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some water trucks have baffles in them to slow down the rate of water flow and reduce its effects on lateral stability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All water truck drivers should do a rollover prevention course.
