{"id":3618,"date":"2016-09-05T07:00:07","date_gmt":"2016-09-04T18:00:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.drivingtests.co.nz\/resources\/?p=3618"},"modified":"2020-01-21T07:33:09","modified_gmt":"2020-01-20T18:33:09","slug":"can-you-record-a-driving-test","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.drivingtests.co.nz\/resources\/can-you-record-a-driving-test\/","title":{"rendered":"Can you record a driving test?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You are allowed to record a driving test using a video camera or audio recorder in the following situations:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em><strong>If the camera records what is happening in the car both the testing officer and the person taking the test must give their permission.<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><strong>If the camera points externally and doesn&#8217;t record any audio or video from the inside of the car, then no permission is required from the vehicle occupants (these cameras are often used for insurance purposes).<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If there is an observer on the test and they didn&#8217;t agree to it being recorded, the observer could be asked to leave the vehicle as the two parties required for the test have agreed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Motorbike riders<\/strong> with helmet cameras do not have to ask permission. A testing officer can object, but according to NZTA there is no legal grounds for them to do so, and it wouldn&#8217;t be in the interests of safety.<\/p>\n<h2>Ways you can record the driving test<\/h2>\n<p>Dashboard cameras &#8211; these tend to face outside the vehicle and record the road ahead. Some record GPS position and speed. It&#8217;s possible also to have a rear-facing camera.<\/p>\n<p>Smartphone &#8211; if your smartphone is in a cradle and you don&#8217;t need to touch it while driving then you can use it to record the test inside the car.
