To get a class 4 truck licence so you can drive a large rigid vehicle you will first need to have held a full class 2 licence for at least 6 months (or 3 months if you are 25 or older) then apply for your class 4 learner licence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How much does a class 4 licence cost?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There is no learner licence theory test as it’s the same theory as class 2<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The full licence application fee is $49.60 and the test fee is $59.90.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can do an accelerated course which usually costs between $800-1000+GST. Note that you will need to do unit standard 24089 (logbooks and worktime) if you can’t provide evidence you have completed this recently. You may need to rent a class 4 truck<\/a>, or there will be an additional fee if you can’t supply your own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What vehicles are not permitted to be driven with a class 4 licence?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

You can’t drive a class 3 or class 5 combination vehicle with a class 4 licence, although you can tow a light trailer with a class 4 vehicle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
