{"id":7450,"date":"2018-04-02T07:00:09","date_gmt":"2018-04-01T18:00:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.drivingtests.co.nz\/resources\/?p=7450"},"modified":"2026-06-24T13:48:54","modified_gmt":"2026-06-24T00:48:54","slug":"do-company-vehicles-have-to-carry-a-first-aid-kit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.drivingtests.co.nz\/resources\/do-company-vehicles-have-to-carry-a-first-aid-kit\/","title":{"rendered":"Do company vehicles have to carry a first aid kit?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 covers the safety of employees and contractors wherever they are working for you, and this includes when they&#8217;re in a vehicle driving for work, whether they are driving or just a passenger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What this means is that they must have a licence for that vehicle (if they are driving), the vehicle <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drivingtests.co.nz\/roadcode-questions\/car\/theory\/what-does-a-wof-show\/\">must be roadworthy<\/a> and there must be adequate first aid supplies available to deal with any injury that could occur. Travelling first aid kits are readily available for $30-40 and can fit in the glovebox or boot. They may need to be refreshed periodically if there are items in them that expire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you give a person a first aid kit, they must know how to use it. This is why <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drivingtests.co.nz\/course\/first-aid\/\">first aid training<\/a> is important for your team members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Other safety equipment that remote workers or workers working alone in the field must have is a way of contacting based which is reliable. A cellphone plus a GPS, CB radio, satellite phone or locator beacon is usually sufficient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">NZTA recommends that&nbsp;all vehicles should be fitted with a fire extinguisher, a first aid kit, a torch, a reflective vest and an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drivingtests.co.nz\/roadcode-questions\/car\/emergencies\/what-does-a-reflectorised-triangle-place\/\">emergency triangle<\/a>.
