The definition of &#8216;road&#8217; is quite broad and includes areas that are generally available to the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A forklift F endorsement stays valid as long as your class 1 licence&nbsp;is valid. You can renew the F endorsement by paying a fee when you renew your class 1 car licence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An Operator&#8217;s Certificate (OSH certificate or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drivingtests.co.nz\/resources\/what-is-a-forklift-licence\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"9445\">forklift licence<\/a>) covers the core theory and basic driving competence that you need to know to operate a forklift in a generic environment using a generic forklift. Additional training or induction will be required if you are lifting loads other than pallets, using attachments (e.g. a rotator or bale clamp), or the forklift has non-standard features, such as turret trucks, articulated trucks or empty container handlers. Some of this is already covered in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drivingtests.co.nz\/course\/forklift\/\">forklift operator&#8217;s certificate course<\/a> here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Driving a forklift on the road: this is all simple, basic information that you would already know if you drove a car such as using your indicators and lights, and giving way to other traffic. You&#8217;ll need to know what a road is &#8211; this is even covered in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drivingtests.co.nz\/roadcode\/car\/\">learner <\/a>licence&nbsp;test.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Legal requirements: make sure the WoF and registration are current and that the licence plate,\u00a0label and WoF label are visible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" src=\"https:\/\/www.drivingtests.co.nz\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/licence-plate-f-endorsement-sm-600x338.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9041\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.drivingtests.co.nz\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/licence-plate-f-endorsement-sm-600x338.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.drivingtests.co.nz\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/licence-plate-f-endorsement-sm-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.drivingtests.co.nz\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/licence-plate-f-endorsement-sm-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.drivingtests.co.nz\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/licence-plate-f-endorsement-sm.jpg 1500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Weight limits: if you have a class 1 licence you can drive a forklift up to 18000kg but you need a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drivingtests.co.nz\/roadcode\/heavy_vehicle\/\">class 2 <\/a>licence to drive one that weighs more than 18000kg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Weights and dimensions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Maximum width is 2.55m, maximum height is 4.3m, maximum weight on a twin-tyred axle is 8200kg, maximum weight on a single-tyred axle is 6000kg, maximum speed for solid tyres and rigid suspension is 10km\/h, over-dimension flags are required when the load projects more than 200mm from the body. This is very similar to class 2 requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Documents<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Documents that relate to forklift licensing: Truck Loading Code, The Road Code, the Approved Code of Practice and various traffic regulations and legislation<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Minimising risk<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Travel slowly, use a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drivingtests.co.nz\/resources\/pedestrian-safety-around-forklifts\/\">spotter<\/a> or someone to help direct traffic, avoid driving when traffic is busy, put out temporary warning signs and cones, and use your horn and warning lights to alert other drivers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Load security<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You have to make sure that any load you carry on your forks on a public road is secured properly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Environmental factors<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Weather, lighting, other road users and road conditions + the impact they have on driving the forklift.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>To get an F endorsement, you need to do an F endorsement course.
