Helping you manage your speed: reduce fines, improve fuel economy
This course gives drivers a deep understanding of speed: why limits exist, why we're wired to ignore them, and what we can actually do about it.
Rather than lecturing, it takes an honest approach: acknowledging that most of us speed from time to time, whether deliberately or without realising it, then equipping drivers with solid strategies to choose more appropriate speeds in real-world conditions.
Delivered through a mix of humour, facts and real-world examples, the course unpacks seven specific reasons people speed and the practical actions available to counter each one. Drivers come away knowing how to recognise the triggers that lead to speeding and how to respond to them.
For fleet operators, the benefits are tangible. Fewer speeding fines, improved safety, reduced wear and tear, and better fuel economy all follow when drivers genuinely understand and manage their speed; this course gives them the understanding to make that happen.
"I just wanted to send you some feedback on the Speed Awareness Course that 30 of our itinerant teachers completed in the last couple of days. There was overwhelming positive feedback on the short, but very worthwhile course." Pakuranga Intermediate
"I did the online Speed Awareness course because I use a company vehicle that is speed monitored. I received a report that showed that I was regularly going over the speed limit - not by a huge amount, but consistently. I thought the course was good (not too long and covered all the important things) and has helped me be more aware of my speed." Andy (Hamilton)
"I was recommended the Speed Awareness course by police to submit to get a work licence after getting too many points. I did this and Fleet Driver Skills to support the application," Dianne
What happens when you pass the course? You get a certificate of completion.
What training does this complement? Speed awareness training is an excellent counterpart to our courses Driving in Difficult Conditions (winter driving) and Fleet Driver Skills.
Is there any instructor-led training? This course is online-only, but we can help coordinate post-incident assessments and in-cab training for your drivers.
Can I use the course if I have been banned from driving for speeding? Taking this course (and usually our Fleet Driver Skills course) can be used to support an application for a work licence, or to encourage more lenient consequences for speeding. However, we suggest you talk to your lawyer or directly with NZ Police as this might not be available in all areas.
