Forklift F Endorsement & Operator's (OSH) Certificate

You'll get both your Operator's Certificate (OSH certificate) and an F endorsement on your licence, and we'll register unit standard 18496 for you, too.

This course is an expansion of our well-regarded Operator's Certificate course which contains easy-to-follow video content followed by questions to assess your understanding of the course material. It covers everything you need to know in the Approved Code of Practice.

The course licence can be purchased by an individual or by a company for its operators.

Once you have completed the online modules, fill out this form to request your in-person assessment at one of their 11 branches nationwide (Auckland, Hamilton, Mt Maunganui, Rotorua, Hastings, New Plymouth, Palmerston North, Wellington, Blenheim, Christchurch or Dunedin). Scheduling your assessment is subject to branch and trainer availability.

What are the advantages of the F endorsement online course?

  • Easy to schedule - the course takes around 2-2.5 hours + the practical assessment but is divided into short modules that only take a few minutes, are easy to digest and convenient in terms of time commitment; you can do one or more modules when you have time. The practical and theory assessment will take about an hour and is held at a TR Driver Training at a mutually convenient time.
  • Full access to the course materials for 6 months - plenty of time to work through the course if you're busy, and plenty of opportunities to refresh your memory about the forklift course after you're qualified
  • Detailed video instructions - watch and learn, then answer questions about what you've seen. You can watch the videos as many times as you need in order to really understand the material
  • Language and literacy support - if English isn't your first language the online questions can be read in 36 different languages, or played in English (the final assessment will be in English, though)
  • You only have to be offsite for the short practical assessment and theory test rather than a whole day

Who is this course for?

  • Forklift operators that need an F endorsement to drive on a road (this includes public spaces, wharves, car parks and more)

What do you get with the course?

  • Comprehensive practical assessment checklist and overview video for the operator's certificate part
  • The account holder can add managers at no extra cost
  • Managers can download detailed reports, plus track and manage operators
  • Managers can generate certificates on completion of the course
  • The account holder receives a monthly email with forklift tips and tricks.

FAQs

Where is the course held? The theory is done online (anywhere you have internet access). The practical assessment is done at one of TR Driver Training's 12 branches nationwide. You can book on 0800 637 000

I have a new forklift operator who hasn't driven a forklift before. Can they use this course to become qualified? Yes, but bear in mind that you should provide them with supervision and training for your specific forklift and hazards.

Does the course cover reach trucks and other types of forklifts, or just counterbalance? The theory is the same regardless of what type of forklift truck you use. The only difference is that you must provide specific practical induction and training on each piece of equipment that your operators use. This can be done internally, by the manufacturer/distributor, or by an external trainer. The same applies to using attachments.

How long is the certificate valid for? The Approved Code of Practice recommends three years. You are free to change this to be more frequent, e.g. two years, but you should not make it longer than three years as this will provide a worse health and safety outcome therefore would not comply with the HSWA2015. The F endorsement stays on a licence for as long as the licence is valid - it doesn't need to be renewed

Do I have to do NZQA unit standards? Not for the operator's certificate but the F endorsement course comes with US18496. You can (optionally) do US10851, but there is a small extra charge for that. Call us to find out more.

How do I get the F endorsement on my licence? You must hold a full New Zealand Class 1 (car) licence. Please bring it with you to the assessment. Once you have finished and passed the theory and practical assessment with TR Driver Training you can apply at VTNZ or AA to have the F endorsement added to your New Zealand full driver licence. VTNZ/AA charge separately for this (the cost is not included in the course fee)

Requirements

  • You will need one course licence per person taking the course - you can't use one licence for multiple operators
  • You will need a computer, smartphone or tablet with internet access to take the theory training
  • You must take a practical assessment and an additional theory test supplied by MITO at a TR Driver Training branch (or your office if one of TR Driver Training's trainers go there) at the end of this course
  • You must have a full class 1 car licence
  • The practical test will be conducted in English and the theory test is in English. If you cannot speak or understand written English to at least IELTS level 5, you may need to provide an interpreter; please let us know when you book

You get access to the course for a full 6 months which means your operator can take a couple of months to finish the modules and can come back to it as a refresher anytime until the course access expires - this is great if you need to do any remedial work with them.

Set up is free whether you are purchasing one course licence or a hundred course licences.
