Road signs videos – New Zealand signs explained

There are three videos in this article with 50 road signs in each to help you learn them for your test.

The first video shows you the following signs:

  • Speed limit 50kph (default urban limit)
  • Compulsory stop
  • Right turning traffic must comply
  • Proceed straight ahead
  • One-way
  • Wrong way
  • Keep left unless passing
  • Pedestrians only
  • Cyclists and pedestrians maintain sides
  • This lane may proceed straight or turn left
  • Keep right
  • No stopping
  • No stopping distance
  • Late night extension
  • Clearway day restrictions
  • No parking in bus stop
  • No parking in shuttle stop on left
  • No parking in emergency vehicle stop on left
  • Parking permitted: 30 minutes
  • Loading zone parking: 5 minutes
  • Motorcycle parking
  • Bus parking: no limit
  • Shuttle parking: no limit
  • Disabled parking: no limit
  • Coupon parking zone ends
  • Parking for authorised vehicles
  • Railway not in use
  • Passing bay ahead
  • Construction zone
  • Cyclist cross here with care

  • Merging traffic from both sides
  • Roundabout ahead
  • Controlled sign road intersection on left

The second video shows you the following signs.

  • Speed limit 100kph (default open road limit)
  • Give way
  • No right turn
  • Turn left or right
  • No u-turn
  • Give way to oncoming vehicles
  • No pedestrians
  • Cyclist lane
  • Turning traffic give way to pedestrians
  • This lane may proceed straight or turn right
  • Bus lane
  • No stopping to the left of this sign
  • No stopping at times prescribed
  • Clearway (no stopping) at times prescribed
  • No parking
  • No parking: coach stop
  • No parking: tram stop
  • Parking permitted: 30 minutes
  • Goods vehicles restriction
  • Cyclist parking
  • Bus parking: time limit
  • Shuttle parking: time limit
  • Disabled parking: time limit
  • Coupon parking zone
  • No exit
  • Heavy vehicle bypass
  • Slow vehicle bays next 2km
  • Heavy vehicles: no engine braking
